In light of the current global virus situation (COVID-19) correct selection and fitting of all items of RPE is of paramount importance to protect the wearer and those around them.
This can only be determined by formal ‘Fit Testing’
We test all manufacturers of face masks including 3M, Scott, JSP, Arco and Sunstrom.
We provide both:
These can be delivered either on site at the customers premises or at a designated location off site by prior arrangement.
We provide Face Fit Testing and Training services in the Home Counties, London and the South East.
Working with our associates we can offer a national service.
As accredited BSIF “Fit 2 Fit” provider, we are able to test both quantitatively or qualitatively in accordance with HSE 282/28 & INDG 479.
All Close Fitting Respiratory Protective Equipment types and makes are covered, Disposable, Half Masks, Filtering Face Pieces or Full Facemasks.
Where Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is used, The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) require it must be able to provide adequate protection for individual wearers, and be “Suitable in every respect”. RPE will not protect the wearer does not fit properly. A major cause of leaks is poor fit, fitting or sizing. Tight facepieces need to be correctly fitted to the wearer’s face to be effective.
As people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes it is unlikely that one particular type or size of RPE facepiece will fit every member of staff. Fit testing will ensure that the equipment selected is “suitable and sufficient” for the wearer, and provide them with the protection required.
Ensure that the individuals are fit tested with the make model type and size of facepiece that they will use in the work place to protect them.
Remember: All wearers of close fitting RPE must be trained in its use and they must be clean shaven to afford an adequate face seal.
RPE Face Fit Testing should be conducted by a competent person. Steps must be taken to ensure that the person who carries out the Face Fit test is appropriately trained, qualified and experienced.
The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) has introduced a scheme for fit testers, which allows you to decide whether your Fit Tester provider is competent.
